Political Correctness Contributes Ft Hood Soldiers' Deaths

As more information trickles out about Major Malik Nidal Hasan’s attack against fellow soldiers and colleagues at Ft Hood last week, it becomes abundantly clear that his actions culminated from a clear lack of fortitude and basic security awareness on the part of senior Army leadership. This lack of fortitude and security awareness illustrates the stark level of hypocrisy and political correctness permeating throughout the Army, the Armed Forces, and government organizations in general. It is coming to light that not only were Major Hasan’s views, open comments, and stated positions regarding US policy and his personal views about a perceived “war on Islam”, but he also is alleged to have made internet comments and even spoke in a public venue as to his perceptions and arguments against US policy “against Islam”.  There is preliminary reporting he may have had some tacit, loose connections with other Jihadist sympathizers.

Anyone who has spent any time working in the government or has been on active duty has been subject to hours and hours of what the Army refers to as EEO Training (Equal Employment Opportunity). It is code for mandatory politically correct seminars touting the virtues and recognition of minority groups within the organization, ensuring there are open lines of reporting and redress for alleged racial, gender based, or ethnic slander,  perceived or actual abuse, or innuendos that can cause, and have caused, tension, instability, or hostile working environments within military units.  It is almost exclusively tailored to minorities and how they can fend against perceived white Christian male-based pressures and abuses toward them. In the civilian world, Gay-Lesbian Transgender abuses and impropriety from heterosexuals is added to the mix of victimized groups. It is often tedious, poorly administered, and for those of us that were raised in loving, tolerant, and respectful homes, offensive in its simplicity to the root causes of true tensions and pressures in large organizations that may be racially, sexually, or religiously based. Yet, it permeates throughout all levels of the organization, and often hangs over like a dark cloud, or like a Zampolit, or political officer from the old Soviet days. Instead of being plus positive, it instead has good people questioning what is now appropriate to say, do, act, think amongst their colleagues within the organization.  It goes on the premise that all people (white males) are prone to these types of politically incorrect thoughts, and that the organization needs to stamp out that kind of thinking and actions that can affect the force, especially the minorities, women, and certain religious practitioners.

Anyone who spent any considerable time over the last 15-20 years in the military would recognize the unfortunate, but completely plausible, result of Major Hasan’s traitorous words, deeds, and ultimate act….an act of terror.  This terror, however, manifested from a lack of fortitude from the stench of hypocritical political correctness. A clear example of this hypocrisy is all the attention and ways to identify White Supremacy signs and potential activities within the military. Though, I can say emphatically, while on duty within the Marine Corps for over twenty years, I never once saw any signs of any organized, loose affiliation, or tacit approval of white supremacist activity. Yet, if one goes to a typical EEO Office, one would find all the literature, pamphlets, and posters identifying white supremacist logos, signs, tattoos, affiliations, and activities, giving the impression that the Neo Nazi SS is infiltrating the US military. Some information discusses Latino“gang” related activity, but the preponderance is identifying the scourge of Neo Nazi groups within the military. Those same Neo Nazis that I never saw, nor had any information or even rumor of existing in anything other than the mind of some stupid drunk belching some tirade that did nothing for his “cause” other than looking like a complete red neck ignoramus.

Enter Major Hasan. If we replaced the same words, deeds, thoughts, internet writings, and public speaking venues of Major Hasan, and replaced them with the tirades, ramblings, and hate filled, anti government rhetoric of a white supremacist, does anyone believe this situation would have ever culminated as far as it did resulting in the deaths of 13 people and the wounding of 30 others? It is clear that because Major Hasan was a Muslim, and was insulated by the chrysalis of political correction, he was not given the same level of scrutiny nor follow through action as a result of his seditious and traitorous views precisely because the force has been so eroded to not rock the proverbial PC boat for fear of career repercussions. Nowhere is this more prevalent than watching General Casey, Chief of Staff of the Army,on the Sunday News Shows painfully address the non-sequiter of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and the alleged abuse Hasan is said to have endured because he was Muslim while on active duty. Despite the fact that Hasan had never deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, and had not been subject to any stressors related to Post Traumatic Stress or “combat” stress, Casey was forced to deliberate and comment on all the Army is doing to stamp out the PTSD, and address allegations of perceived “abuse” toward Hasan as a Muslim. All because Casey, and much of the entire force, has been shaped and crafted to address the PC version of the story, not the security and Force Protection version.

Hasan was not just a member of the military. He was an officer, granted special trust and confidence within the military. Additionally, he was a doctor, and a psychiatrist, both granting him additional trust and confidence in the physical and psychological well being of his patients. This guy was as vetted in this organization as one can get. However, he began showing signs of breaching that special trust on each of his special conditions within the organization…and no one did or said anything to affect it. Had he been in the intelligence field, his actions alone would warrant an inquiry for a number of reasons, one being the fact that he was interacting on websites, and voicing his anti-US policy opinions to colleagues, patients, friends, and soldiers. He was proselytizing Islam, clearly with Jihadist views, to his colleagues and subordinates, his patients and coworkers. Can you imagine anyone doing the same thing as a “born again” Christian with supremacist undertones? Yet, he remained on duty.  Why wasn’t this issue brought forward by one single official to affect a course correction? How was this person allowed to have and voice these views, views that are the antithesis to good order and discipline, let alone traitorous and completely in step with the propaganda spread by our Jihadist enemies?

The Brutal Truth...Political Correctness.

MSNBC's Continued Recipe For Disaster

I used to watch MSNBC, and CNN, nearly as much as I watched Fox News...sometimes more, until about 5 years ago. One of the reasons I watched MSNBC and CNN was because I had access to them when I was living in Europe and caught snippets of MSNBC on CNBC late night, and CNN on CNN International. These were the only "American Centric" sources we got (though the incessent bashing of the US, its Policies, and Mr. Bush often became a bit too much for this Ex-Pat to stomach)Since I came back to the US, I sometimes (rarely) can get past the gag reflex and hunker down, hold my nose, and watch MSNBC (honestly, more out of sheer morbid curiosity)...though CNN, I rarely watch as it clearly shifted from its desperate perception of impartiality as it has snickered at, if not down right ignored, incredibly powerful and important stories of late (Van Jones, and accurate Tea Party coverage, not to mention Anderson "Potty Mouth" Cooper's unraveling as he titillatingly commented on "Tea bagging"...so mature that Anderson)... I digress..

As I watched about 10 minutes of MSNBC's "Countdown" with the increasingly bafoonerized and desperate Keith Olbermann, I was struck with the clarity and simplicity of their self inflicted demise...I have never been compelled to write Keith Olbermann (figuring my email would be in an infinite queue lambasting and ridiculing Mr. Olbermann for so many juicy and obvious malaprops, inconsistencies, and seething envy-laced hate rants..)  However, I couldn't help but attempt to point out some really obvious and strikingly ironic statements made by Mr. Olbermann. Below is my quick note to him.

Dear Mr. Olbermann,

Your increasing tirades against the personalities at Fox News are becoming quite tiresome. The MSNBC recipe for disaster is quite clear...to which you continue to contribute; as long as Fox reports and discusses salient issues of the day and MSNBC continues to discuss "Fox", you will never...ever ...pull yourselves from the doldrums of last place in the coveted Ratings.

In tonight's theatre of the "original", you blasted Glenn Beck for being perhaps the "dumbest man in the world"...two issues come to mind..1. Despite what one might think of Mr. Beck and his "9/12" Project, it can not be said that it is not original, and passionate....As the MSNBC line up repeatedly bashes and attacks personalities at Fox, one can't help but think of Albert Einstein's comment on insanity (paraphrasing..) "Doing the same thing, over and over, and expecting change is the definition of insanity"...you need a new approach besides "we hate Fox, and so should you..."...

And 2....how must it feel to be so far behind in the viewer-ship ratings of the man with the show you claim is the "dumbest in the world"?... I'm not sure how smart it is to bash the one beating you as "dumb"..."lucky"..maybe..

I guess dumb like a Fox...

Good Luck,

The MSM Spin Machine in Full Force Over Jones Resignation

In the wake of the overdue resignation of one of the most reprehensible figures to occupy a significant position in the White House in recent years, the MSM has basically given the Van Jones resignation the white wash that can be expected from a media in the corner for the Administration. Jones' resignation statement itself was of couse accusatory of "lies and slander" as the traditional victim..yet he failed to answer all the print and video that was uncovered as to his despicable and communist ties. If there is any question on why this radical communist was run out on a rail, see below:
"I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th," he said. "By August, I was a communist." ..Van Jones, as reported by Jake Tapper at ABC in this mornings online reporting...surprising.

and again, Tapper reports...
"Jones and other young activists in 1994 formed a group called Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, or STORM, rooted in Marxism and Leninsm."

Keep in mind as the MSM tries desperately to tone this resignation down, they will try to make it about simple "policy" differences, and that he bent the noses of some sensitive Republicans when he called them "a**holes" speaking to a crowd at Berkley this year. However, this was never about policy...it is about conviction..WE DON"T DO COMMUNISM HERE IN AMERICA, MR. JONES...and to you Ms Jarrett..it is not in the American DNA..it is repulsive to us as a people and in direct conflict philisophically and morally to the Constitution of the US. That is why he was fired...not because he was "controversial"...besmearching our fighting men and women during combat is controversial. Communism, the antithesis of everything we stand for and have fought and died for, is why Mr. Jones was handed his "beret" and shown the door...and Thank God!

Americans-1, Communists-0

...now we just have to keep the pressure on the other radical quasi-socialist/communists commi"czars" that have penetrated the vetting process and FBI background checks. This is FAR from over, and the Administration needs to explain how a "Van Jones" is even considered, let alone hired, as a White House Adviser. They will no doubt, in consultation with their Media and Legislative enablers, try to down play and minimize both Jones, and his dismissal. However, the American people are awake and becoming increasingly skeptical of the true "change" this Administration is peddling. Van Jones is just one indicator...there are certainly more to follow...

Well Done, Glen Beck...if I were a liberal Obama-phile, I would be wondering how Glen Beck, "Clown" and "Buffoon" as depicted by the MSM (especially the hate and ridicule from the MSNBC-ers) will try to spin how they were handed their proverbial political and rhetorical "jock straps" with the dismissal of Jones from a bunch of Red Neck, Clown Following, Gun Clinging, Bible Pounding Tea Baggers....this is sooo rich...so which one is it..."clown" or political wizard ...? ..and still, crickets from the MSM.

CNN: "Van Who?"

If you ever had any doubt as to the journalistic bias and topic select reporting conducted by CNN, I would refer to you today's CNN hourly "updates". I watched Fredericka Whitfield in two seperate news cycles, and there was not one word about the outlandish, repugnant comments, and liability for the Administration of "Green Czar" Van Jones. He has now released two apologies on seperate issues where he has said radically despicable things regarding race, anti-American rhetoric, and socialist/communist ideology. There are calls for his resignation purcilating in the Congress, yet CNN, to my knowledge, has not made one mention of this Senior White House Adviser and his liability and completely reprehensible comments and statements today. This type of ommission support from a major news organization is stark and very frightening. In addition to ommitting any thing of concern regarding the radical, Van Jones, CNN had a very skewed and quite predictable segment on the "Tea Party Express". Fox's continued and wide reaching covergage provides a template of the true tone and nature of the event, while CNN, quite classiclly, editied together the more vehement and vocal vinettes that create an impression of "Tea Parties" Unplugged...feeding the "mob", "extremist" propoganda and perception crafting, reminiscent of Information Operation Campaigns launch by Saddam and continuously released by the likes of Casto and Kim Jong Il to their own people about American "Imperialism".
If I ever doubted I lived in a controlled media enviorment, I have little doubt now.

Neil Cavuto Interviews Pelosi Critic

Today, Neil Cavuto of Fox Business Network interviewed a constituent from Pelosi's district, a David Magnasson. He expressed exactly what I was frustrated about when I made this video.  I made this nearly two weeks ago, yet this "outrage" on the media as to the hypocricy and ridicule spewed to concerned citizens from the Left Legislative and Media enablers is just now taking flight.

"Turn Out the Lights, the Party's Over..."

Well, well. It seems old Van Jones' past is catching up to him. Fox News is reporting that apology number 2 has been released from the WH now that Jones' reprehensible comments and acknowledged signing of a 9/11 Conspiracy Petition claiming the attack on 3000 Americans that day was an "inside job", and expressing his solidarity with Muslims and Arabs around the world and others oppressed by American Imperialism...

So we now know, irrefutably, that Mr. Jones is a self proclaimed revolutionary communist, racist, anti-American, 9/11 conspiracy kook and race baiting, class envy sparking radical...in YOUR White House...can you imagine if David Duke, after all the disclosures and phony politics he was able to manufacture, trying to soften his racist and KKK ties, was then appointed to the WH of Reagan, or either Bush?..That's right, it would be 24 hour, wall to wall burning crosses and white hooded sheets on every news lead...the difference, is Obama brought this guy in, and must have known his views and policy positions..why else would he bring him in? Comic Relief?

Van Jones is the David Duke of the Obama Administration...the difference is, as with the right, and republicans, Duke was rejected and scorned. Jones is hailed as "brilliant, edgy, "uppity" (his words), and progressive.." Nope..he is just a kook...and, hopefully, will be shown the door this coming Monday.

Observations From a Rookie Town Hall Participant

On 29 August, 2009, I attended a Town Hall meeting in Spring Valley, CA, that was held in a school gymnasium hosted by Democratic Congresswoman, Susan Davis. Over one thousand people were in attendance, both in the gym and out in front. In full disclosure, I consider myself a conservative (becoming increasingly decoupled from the Republican Mainstream), and though I am becoming more knowledgeable on the details of the Health Care debate and salient issues, my primary motivation for attending was based more on my fundamental right as an American to protest my elected officials, and exercise dissent against its policies and actions. I have never been “politically” active in such a way, and other than voting dutifully, I have always been an observer of such action. Yet now, I, like millions of Americans, am becoming more concerned, becoming frustrated, as the political and media elite, primarily illustrated by the Left, has skewed and maligned hard working, concerned citizens as “manufactured”, “cronies”, “thugs”, and even “racist,” simply because they disagree and have deep concerns for a policy that at its core would fundamentally impact the socio-economic foundation of the greatest and most envied political and economic experiment in history.

My friend and fellow concerned citizen (former military colleague and long time friend…”extremists” I know!!) and I arrived just as the Town Hall meeting was commencing. There were several hundred in the hall, and about three hundred people out side the hall, separated as “protesters” and “supporters” to the Health Care policy by County Sheriffs in the parking lot. There was a ratio of about 3-2 protesters to supporters. As we arrived, there were signs and bull horns, on both sides…but the differences in the crowds were stark and quite revealing. The first noticeable difference was the way the “supporters” were dressed. As if they were in some kind of uniform, they displayed both bright green and red tee shirts, from both a local San Diego Union Group, and ACORN. They were dutifully lined up in three groups of about 30-40 persons each, holding pre-manufactured, professionally designed and slick-printed hand held signs. The signs read, “Yes We Can on Health Care”, and “Health Care Now”, each with a graphic resemblance to the very recognizable “Obama” rainbow of red, white, and blue for the campaign. These were the vast majority. There were other smaller pockets of “supporters” that took on other personas; that of young student types (goatees and side burns, jeans and Obama tee shirts, but very few...maybe 4-5) and then the fiery eyed, frizzy haired 50 plus year olds looking like college professors and hippy age throw backs, and some “Volvo” liberal types” in their very nice pressed shorts, designer glasses, Gucci bags, and Obama buttons, just kind of taking it all in as if they could tell their other Starbuck, half  & half-decaff, Green Chai hold-the-foam liberal friends “I hung out with the rabble today…shouted ad hominem slurs at the Neanderthals” Each of the groups (those in the “uniforms”) had a kind of cheerleader in front of them, each with a bull horn, and a clip board or folder. They were the “commissars” of the “supporter” crowd, obviously displaying that this was not their first “rodeo” and were manically and desperately coaxing their respective group in the stale worn out chants. “What do we want? Justice, when do we want it? Now!”, and “Yes We Can”, “Honor Ted” (which really stunned me), blah, blah, blah…etc...However, in considerable contrast to the fiery and effervescent “commissars” in the front with their bull horns, the people in the groups were very stoic and non-animated, almost exclusively people of color, and many with a dazed “foreigners” gaze one might see from tourists as they mouthed the chants with the enthusiasm reminiscent of those standing in the DMV line…more on this later.

My buddy and I (who both had to negotiate rather vigorously to get our respective “kitchen passes” to shirk our litany of standard Saturday “honey-do” errands from our wives to go play protesters for 2-3 hours) walked right into the protester side of the mix and held up our homemade signs proudly. It was like a couple fish to water, and it was therapeutic to actually stand with people that agreed, vehemently, with your cause and position. As for the protesters, the crowd was an eclectic and diverse group of…well, Americans. Husbands and wives, young couples with children, older couples hand in hand, multi-ethnic and multi racial, though the slight majority were Caucasian and males from about 30-50. It could have been the line to a movie, or a fire works watching crowd...typical people, yet doing a very atypical act….expressing their First Amendment rights. They all stood about 2-3 people deep in a long spread out line with really no organization or real clue as to how this all was supposed to transpire. One gentleman had a bull horn in the back of the protesters chanting “Jesus Saves” and “Abortion isn’t Health Care” but he seemed to only be organizing himself.

I think one’s passion and concern in this debate can be measured as to the personal attention and artistic creativity one puts into their sign. They become some what of a personal moniker, and capture feeling, frustration, spirit, and one’s outrage and dismay as to how they feel. As for the protesters, the signs were obviously homemade, very colorful and expressive. Most with the theme “Down with Health Care”, but other more broadly based themes ribbing the Administration as socialists and Neo-Bolsheviks, comparing Obama to past socialist/communist leaders, and Rahm Emmanuel as a “Berea” figure from the heydays of the darkest periods of Stalin’s Pogroms. Most were much lighter, but equally as effective illustrating the “change” voted in was not the “change” desired, and so forth. The signs my friend and I were carrying read “Who Is Van Jones?” (a reference to the incredible appointment as White House Adviser on “Green Issues”, a man who is a convicted criminal, and devout, self proclaimed Maoist-Marxist-Leninist advocating the overthrow of the US Constitution, and considers America an apartheid nation…yep, you can’t make this stuff up), and the other side read “A.C.O.R.N.- Alinsky Communists Organized to Ruin our Nation” (yes…I came up with that!). My Brother in Arms had “Obama Lied, Grandma Died” and “Team Astroturf”… Many of our new Brothers and Sisters in protest had similar type signs addressing kitschy and clever plays on words, and railing against Health Care Policies and the Administration in general. Though contrary to statements from Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, there were no visible crass or “fringy” signs or even comments that made reference to any bigotry, racism, or blatant intolerance, even by “politically correct” American standards. Most people were energized, but with no real guidance, and just seemed like popcorn kernels popping their concerns and slogans. Some choice ones were “Say No For Mary Jo” in direct rebuttal to one of the supporters holding a sign and chanting “Honor Ted”, no doubt attempting to elicit sympathy for the late Senators’ passing…(though for the life of me I can’t begin to see the threads of this nonsequitur argument...but I digress)

Ms. Davis addressed the crowd for nearly two hours. She made it very clear she was for the Health Care Bill (whatever that is in its present form) and was met with very…very strong opposition. Every time she regurgitated one of the President’s talking points about “won’t loose coverage…keep the coverage you have…no rationing…plan is budget neutral...Health Care is a Right” etc…she was met with open defiance and even chants of “Liar, Liar”…My observation was the “left” as defined by the “participants” at this rally, is quite simply stunned. All the momentum that was exhibited during the campaign, the fainting, and chants of exultation, Messiah-like reactions from the Left was nowhere to be seen. In fact, with the exception of a few truly crass and uncalled for outbursts from “supporters” in the form of “You are all crazy racists”, “You want another Auschwitz” and even one radical young woman “flipping off” a group of protesters as she walked by in clear frustration and deep anger, the other “supporters” had that look that athletic teams get when they know they are losing big, and its going to be a long, long game.

As the event was closing, the crowds from in the building began to pour out. Both Protesters and Supporters walked side by side, each with their respective type signs as if they were exiting a sports event from some stadium. They would walk by those of us now on the outside, separated by police line tape as if transiting some kind of gauntlet. Originally, the “supporters” were closer to the entrance of the building, but when the event finished, the cops shifted both crowds, and by happenstance, the “protester” crowd was now lining the long path way as all the participants had to transit to leave the premises. There were approximately 150-200 “protesters” lined up behind the tape, and that is when the fun began. Now, the whole group inside, plus the media and even officials conducting the event had to walk through the chants and slogans from the participants. As the “protesters” walked by, someone on the bull horn would say “Give a hand to the brave Americans exhibiting their rights today”…and the crowd would erupt. As “supporters” walked by, the bull horn would ask, “Why would you sanction something for the people, their own representatives wouldn’t utilize?” or, “Your ACORN sponsored air-conditioned bus is waiting for you with juice boxes and wine and cheese platters compliments of George Soros”…and the limousine liberal types were quite embarrassed as they slunk on by…”Other shout outs were “Why won’t you insist your representatives read the damn bill before they vote yes on it?” Again, there were blank stares underscoring either rhetoric brain lock, or utter dumbfound-ness as to the sheer numbers and volume expressed against this proposal.

My only up close and personal engagement with the “enemy” was as I was asking/chanting, “Who is Van Jones?” Clearly, none of the “supporters” knew, as they stared with complete indifference lined up in their military style formations holding their pre-fabbed signs. However, nearly all the “protesters” who were walking by knew who he was, and I was getting scores of people coming up to me saying” That is an excellent question,” and “How did he get into the White House?”

As I was talking to a group of fellow “protesters” as to whom I thought Van Jones was, one of the more vocal “commissars” leading the “Stoic” Brigade came over to me. Separated by only the police tape and the “neutral” water bottle trash can compliments of the county (thank you…) she walk over, and initially very calmly, almost condescendingly said to me, “Van Jones? Oh, he is a well known community organizer, who founded the (unintelligible, but not “STORM”) Group, and has written numerous articles and spoken in many venues on the need to embrace urban Green projects”…blah, blah...she waned on poetic about how he is a true man of the people and how he was recognized and brought on by the President because he has worked in the “trenches” and really understands what the “people’s” need. I was cordial and respectful as she spoke, and waited until she was finished. I asked, “Tell me Madam, those books and speaking engagements, were those between prison stays, and his founding of STORM, and his espousing of Maoist-Marxist/Leninist views, claiming the US is an environmental apartheid state?” I asked. She said, “He does have some socialist views, yes, but to try to label him as a communist is wrong.” she said emphatically. I retorted, “Madam, I didn’t call him a communist, he calls himself one, on numerous video and audio appearances, again exulting the virtues of Marxist ideology and the revolutionary dogma of the socialist/communist figures seen in Latin America, Asia, and Africa.” She pointed her finger at me and defaulted to the classic liberal/socialist tactic when confronted with the facts, “You are just bigoted to different political points of view”, and she started to leave. I said, “the according to you, Madam, Nazism is “just another point of view.”…She turns around and says, “You all supported all those Nazis in the White House for 8 years….”…I went on ”And according to you Madam, Charles Manson was not a murderer, he was just a rambunctious sort with another point of view, right? Madam, more people died from the secular “isms” of the 20th Century, mostly Communism, and you would support that?”…She scurried off back to her “group”.

Speaking of “group”…remember the “stoic” dazed folks I commented on earlier? Well, as the event broke up, I witnessed nearly all the dazed ones around the corner of the building, as they returned their pre-fabbed signs, and many took off their tee-shirts. I briefly spoke to one older woman, who was of Filipino descent. Having grown up in the Bay Area with many “Pinoy” friends, I picked up a little Tagolag along the way. I said hello to her and asked how she was in Tagolag…she smiled and said, “Mabutay, Mabutay”…fine, fine. I noticed she and about 20 of her fellow older Filipino lady friends didn’t speak much English, and didn’t appear to me to be the fiery political types”. The other group of “supporters” was clearly of East African origin, either Somalis, Eritrean or Ethiopian. Having lived and worked for a time in East Africa, I concluded that is probably where they originated. They too, seemed to only speak their language and almost all of the women were shrouded in the traditional Islamic head dress. I tried to ask one of them his position on the Health Care debate, but he walked passed me with that typical look one has when they do not understand a word you just said, smiling and avoiding eye contact. Though I can not prove it, I am confident these groups didn’t speak much English at all, let alone were concerned citizens burning and yearning to express their “outrage” for the need to pass Universal Health Care. Having witnessed stage protests while living in the Former Soviet Union, I am quite convinced this was nothing more than some vulnerable, ignorant folks scooped up at some community center and given some form of compensation for their time. Seeing many of them pile into vans driven by their once energetic “commissars” only solidified my conjecture.

I concluded what my gut feeling was all along…there is genuine outrage and vocal dismay and frustration about the potential passing of Universal Health Care by both Conservatives, and independents (and as witnessed, even Democrats with serious buyers remorse). The passion, fire, and nearly Rome-like coliseum crowds of the campaign in support of President Obama were nowhere to be found. I am more appalled by what I saw by local “news” coverage, that masked the whole affair as something “even-steven” or that it was equal and balanced as to the “protester-supporter” levels of dissent…this is a complete and utter fabrication and skewing of the truth. The “protesters” were overwhelmingly more energetic, grassroots, and greater in numbers. The “supporters”, though some genuine, were much less energetic, almost dejected in their spirit, and far less convincing. If Ms Davis doesn’t see this for what it is, then she deserves to be out in 2010 for sheer ignorance, arrogance, or perhaps both.

As for me, I am more convinced there is a real movement here on the part of increasingly awakening citizens and their new found power of dissent. I for one, even after having served over 20 years on active duty, don’t remember a day when I felt more connected and in tune with my country and the tremendous gift bestowed upon us by our Founding Fathers. They really did understand what they were talking about, and I now understand even more how precious it is to preserve.

A Kinder, Gentler Counter Terror Policy

ABC News Exclusive: National Security Adviser Says President Obama Is Having Greater Success Taking Terrorists Out of Commission Than Bush Did

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/08/abc-news-exclusive-national-security-adviser-says-president-obama-is-having-greater-success-taking-t.html

ABC News Correspondent, Jake Tapper, interviewed National Security Advisor (NSA), James L. Jones. With great admiration and respect, I am not sure I can agree in totality with my former boss on his premises as to why it is believed “Obama is having greater success taking out terrorists”. The National Security Advisor stated, “This type of radical fundamentalism or terrorism is a threat not only to the United States but to the global community,” Jones said. “The world is coming together on this matter now that President Obama has taken the leadership on it and is approaching it in a slightly different way – actually a radically different way – to discuss things with other rulers to enhance the working relationships with law enforcement agencies – both national and international."

Having been on active duty, been on numerous planning and policy development cells and OPTs (operational planning teams), and having conducted exhaustive research completing my Masters Degree writing a thesis on Counter Terror (CT) policy, dealing with and contributing to CT measures and policy, I don’t believe there is fundamentally anything “ radically different” that the practitioners and shapers of CT policy and implementation have been doing since the early days, weeks, and months redirecting US CT policy and our international cooperation measures to better deal with this "new" enemy. The US bolstered considerably its intelligence, CT Special Ops, and law enforcement liaison and interoperability with countries ranging from Australia to Ukraine in the follow years of 911. Many of the “old Europe” countries initially got on board, because of our NATO ties, exercising existing interoperability levels that acted as a good foundation for this new “Global War on Terror”. Yet, the NSA is now claiming that because of Mr. Obama’s actions, the synergy and interaction is so successful, and that is what is leading to our new success.  Mr. Tapper points out that there is no empirical evidence that supports this new claim of “success”, but I will accept it at face value having great respect and personal interaction with the source.

I believe, as was evident in numerous international forums and expressed by the international press during the early parts of the Bush Administration, the loathing, as exacerbated by our own left biased press and pundits, of President Bush politically, and the relentless portrayal of him and his policies as “cowboy” “unilateral”, “reckless”, “without finesse” were the nail that caught the proverbial “nylons” of stepped up and unimpeded cooperation from our so called “allies”.  As General Jones said himself, NATO itself was a political body. It makes decisions by committee, and paralysis by analysis that he coined “NATO-No Action, Talk Only”.   However the mechanisms and desire to cooperate at the actionable level and even by those in the military and military style hierarchies were always there. Even Spain, after their shameful withdrawal of troops in Iraq as a political decision was made by the incoming Spanish government regarding support for the war, recognized from a practical and “real-politick” stand point that terror as exemplified  by radical Jihadist Islamic fundamentalists was perhaps the greatest single threat to civilized society (as do many “old” Europe countries). Yet, as with many of the countries that tacitly or openly disagreed with the Bush Administration, they didn’t like its politics, and resented the Realist view of International Security, instead of the pervasive, yet provably weaker, Wilsonian Internationalist ideology of International Security as illustrated by the UN in the form of “Multilateralism”.  I need not list all the abject failures we have seen over the last several decades that underscore the unmitigated disasters bodies and ideologies wrapped in the feel good politics of UN style approaches to security conducted, or fail to conduct.

It is my contention that the political and diplomatic hand cuffs have been removed and the law enforcement and security/intelligence apparatuses are now just able to exercise the already existing procedures and implement the operational methods already laid down by the Bush Administration early on. I think it is a little self serving, though not on the NSA’s part, to claim things are bad because of the last administration (economy, unemployment, deficits, Health Care, et al), but anything that is “successful”, well, that is because “we” are so astute and more in tune with our international colleagues and allies. It wasn’t the cocktail parties and diplomatic notes of congratulations the President received over the last 6 months that changed the tone of what is now being claimed as “better working relationships”. If the Obama Administration wants to now claim that our politics are more in vogue with many international partners in the “Operational Contingencies”, that I can agree upon. However, it is a bit of a stretch to claim the journeymen and interoperability issues of CT operations and approaches are some how more enlightened, or somehow the methods and procedures are just “better’ now that the Obama administration is in. For a group of folks that couldn’t agree on what to call the existing wars (No longer The Global War on Terror), I find it incredulous that they would now know how to miraculously spawn a new way of catching and neutralizing our greatest enemies. Not likely.

The CIA’s Tailhook

As I watch the CIA investigation situation unfold, I can’t help but see an eerie parallel with the Tailhook debacle and the potential for evisceration of highly skilled, experienced and valuable CIA operatives as the news outlets are reporting morale is at an all-time low, and quality career officers are said to be seeking employment elsewhere.   I have a unique perspective as both a former Naval Aviator and Intelligence Operator while on active duty. As a young Marine Officer back in the early Nineties, I was interrogated, not once, but twice, by the Naval Investigative Service. My crime; I was a Naval Aviator living in Southern California, and could have been at the Tailhook convention in Las Vegas in 1991. (I was not) Briefly, at the convention, there was a small group of participants that displayed uncouth and sexually aggressive behavior, that was ultimately deemed as un-officer like conduct, and in some cases assault and attempted rape. It took on a very politically charged tone, and the NIS and DoD investigators proceeded on what is widely recognized as a Witch Hunt, going far beyond the initial parameters of the investigation against the original few perpetrators. I remember distinctly hearing of a Navy Captain, who just had taken command of a fighter squadron at Miramar NAS, who received a phone call from a peer that he just heard the Captain was relieved of duty as reported by a local TV station. In short, this poorly conducted, politically-correct charged investigation took a turn for the surreal, and went way beyond the original scope, and targeted several Navy and Marine Corps Flag Officers, and young Naval Aviators, many whom were not even at the convention, which included Yours Truly. It was a despicable act that this small group conducted on that fateful night in 1991, only to be outshined in its damage and impact by the follow on investigation that lead to the whole sale resignation and dismissal of hundreds of the nation’s top military pilots.

Like the CIA officials of today, those pilots were highly trained, critical assets to national security. The running joke was, “The investigation did more to gut Naval Aviation than Saddam Hussein could ever dream of doing”. Long after the perpetrators were meted their just punishment, the stench and accusatory nature of the botched investigation lingered. Many officers were forced to sign written disclosures as to their whereabouts during Tailhook 91’, most never having attended at all, years after the incident. Many colleagues and fellow pilots resigned their commissions, and many aviators, to this day, held considerable resentment toward the NIS and DoD investigators. It was tragic that the incident took place aat all, and most officers believed if they would have just acted quickly enough, sending the clearly guilty bastards to the “Yard Arm” for hanging, it would have alleviated the prolonged damage to the greater institution.

Operatives, and contractors, within the Agency could very well be found guilty of crimes. What is a very disconcerting thought is the notion of another politically charged investigation that challenges the other 99% of quality, respected, and professional officers with the CIA, all viewed as “guilty until proven innocent”. In extraordinary vocations such as Fighter Pilots and Covert Intelligence Operatives, trust, and knowing your superiors and their “overseers” have your best interests in mind as you are asked to perform unusually dangerous and difficult tasks, is paramount. The CIA was perceived as risk-averse before 9/11, and then was thrust into the greatest challenge to our national security, in a new and unorthodox covert and intelligence war against very ruthless and dangerous terrorists. CIA officers, like pilots, are any things…but they are not stupid. If you want me to either fly a $30 million high performance aircraft that is just as prone to try and kill me as the missile envelope you are ordering me into, or task me to clandestinely recruit and run enemy agents in a hostile environment, in a foreign language, and pay me “Bupkis”, then I had better know, in my heart, I can trust you to back me up! Believe me, without the trust, the low pay, hard life, little recognition, and tin medals don’t mean much.

The Obama administration is on the precipice of potentially losing hundreds if not thousands of extremely talented and experienced intelligence operatives during a time of unprecedented challenge in an unconventional and dangerous conflict. Like pilots, these folks don’t grow on trees, nor is there a huge storage bin of former folks that would be willing to pick up the slack from such a mass exodus.

Perhaps they can turn to the ACLU. I hear they have a pretty good spying program now.

Video From American Sentry-"They Stand"

Please find the link below from American Sentry (Video called They Stand).

http://www.vimeo.com/6180131

It underscores the stark hypocrisy, and dangerous trend set by this Administration regarding the Health Care Debate. However, this is not about policy...it is about conviction. It also is a rebuttal to the unprecedented and malicious onslaught from legislative and media enablers to malign and stifle honest, independent, and concerned citizens that are awakening to defend their unalienable rights to Protest this Administration, and elected officials. Don’t let these politicians and media pseudo-intellectulas intimidate and stifle your right to dissent, and to oppose policies, even when they demonize and vilify Americans for expressing their views. If you are as frustrated and angry as I am, please pass this video along. My hope is it will act as a motivator to spark and incite those to action to counter this incredible attack on Americans exercising their Constitutional prerogative. We are Americans, and we have a right to be heard.

Holder To Investigate CIA- NFL Forced To Use Linemen As DBs

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32538742/ns/politics-more_politics

Apparently, the Attorney General, Eric Holder, is going to assign a Special Prosecutor to investigate alleged CIA abuse of terror suspects shortly after the 911 attack. This is on the heels of a report released that CIA interrogators used unauthorized and abusive tactics to compel and force terror suspects to provide information crucial in the thwarting of and intelligence gathering on Al Qaeda and other terrorists, post World Trade Center bombing.

Having both worked in intelligence and having been an instructor in resistance to interrogation methods, I recognize the thin balance between our moral obligation to adhere to the rules and procedures of interrogation and intelligence gathering, and the critical need to acquire real-time vital information that could lead to the apprehension of bad guy operators and the stopping of further terror attacks against our citizens, for which we are sworn to defend.  This is a real conundrum, and can be debated well after Mr. Holder is out of office. Politicians, Law Enforcement practitioners, and legal analysts will no doubt argue that we, as the leader of the free world, need to be above this type of abuse and it is ultimately in our national interest to ensure we do not utilize methods and procedures that diminish and erode our moral high standing.

From a comfortable chair, over looking the Potomac, sipping my Half–Caff Latte with Light Foam, I can certainly appreciate the desire and necessity for the US and our defense and intelligence practitioners to color within the lines. This is a slippery slope, and can open up, as witnessed by the Special Prosecutor, a very ugly can of worms. Yet, as the proverbial time bomb ticks, and you are thinking about your fellow citizens, and even your own family, being exposed and possibly injured or killed by the “next” attack as you have the potential of gathering crucial information and thwarting their nefarious activities, “morality” in a strictly academic sense is a luxury and even a burden to the Real Politicks of hard core and “play for keeps” operations against those dedicated to kill us. Playing by the rules is what Americans do…and it is precisely that mentality that the Terrorists are counting on.

Of course, we can not simply pick and choose which rules we like and those we don’t to either cover our administrative derrières, for political expediency, or perceived operational necessity. The CIA will no doubt argue, and there are officers and documents that support, the intelligence gathered as a result of their interrogations, some including questionable and clearly unauthorized methods, was “top drawer” information that led to stopping and further apprehension and disruption of terrorist networks. It is quite easy to lose the focus that we are at war with the most insidious of enemies as prosecutors, other bureaucrats and “experts” analyze the “post game” films and begin to hand out indictments and other legal “French Kisses” to the operators. If…IF…there was criminal activity, then there needs to be repercussions for that behavior and it needs to be addressed. That is clear.  However, if we discover that the tactics, though on the surface appear brutal and cruel, did provide key intelligence indicators about future terror activities then our concern shifts from the “criminal” concerns to how the terrorist “felt”, and did we “scare them”…and were their feelings hurt.

Each time certain information is released about our methods and procedures for interrogation, the terrorists adapt and overcome through training and experience how to defeat our intelligence gathering and interrogation methods. Guile, and scaring the urine out of those that are determined to kill as many of us as possible are not reasons to prosecute. If there is reason to believe the methods were physically fatal or life threatening (in their execution, not in their perception), then their needs to be a classified investigation as is standard within sensitive organizations, and even outside oversight. If Mr. Holder chooses to “open this up” and expose methodologies that are not criminal, but still effective, then we are aiding the enemy in his ability to resist our increasingly vanilla options. As with any organization, there needs to be procedures to police and observe its own personnel and if necessary from those outside. However, Mr. Holder also swore an Oath to support and defend against all enemies.

There are organizations that have those within it slipping out of bounds all the time. Professional football teams have extremely well paid athletes that commit personal fouls all the time…even criminal activity off the field. They fail to stop touchdowns, they fail to score touchdowns, and they fumble and miss read defenses every Sunday. However, the Owner doesn’t assign the Team Lawyer to investigate the defensive back coach each time the secondary commits a penalty against the opposing team. The coach either gets a hold of the problem, or he, or the players, is replaced. But in the world of US Government football, we put the problem of the defensive backs under the purview of the Special Teams coach, with oversight from the Team Lawyer and the assistant General Manager. This is evident of a new “group” to be managed by the FBI (which really means, Failure to Become Integrated) and under the auspices of the National Security Council called the High Value Target Interrogation Group. So, instead of having our first string field intelligence interrogators in the CIA and DIA, we are going to hand the authority over to the FBI, who as a law enforcement organization, is more concerned about case-making, than they are about enemy–breaking. So, the Defensive Backs at the CIA are now going to be replaced by the Offensive linemen at FBI, under the watchful eye of the management department under the General Manager, provided by information from the owner’s lawyer.  How long would the NFL last with this kind of logic?

"Forsooth and Egad" Exclaims Congress to CIA

This article, "C.I.A. Sought Blackwater’s Help in Plan to Kill Jihadists," originally appeared in The New York Times.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/20/us/20intel.html

Leave it to Congress to have a “Forsooth and Egad” moment when it comes to C.I.A. contractors doing “wet work” in the new "Overseas Contingent" campaign formally referred to as The Global War on Terror. Believe me (or not...) when I say Blackwater is not the only game in town, and has been avoided like rotten sushi in some regards. Though I can not confirm nor deny, I’m confident there are entrepreneurial methods and personnel that have been approached and used in other “black” programs to provide our top favorite Jihadists their much deserved One Way Ticket to the Virgin Party in some format, whether direct action or training and support.  (Isn’t it interesting that an organization that is so fueled by its rejection of modernity and the “wicked” ways of the West uses the deflowering of women as its prime motivator to get stupid men to do terrible things to the “heathens”…I digress)

One would hope, when it comes to the quintessential struggle of our life time, we would encourage and employ the best this nation has to offer in the ways of clandestine, covert, and counter-terror tactics, even if that requires our government to seek those with special skills, backgrounds, experiences and training in “ticket sales” and technical support, “baggage handling” from outside the active intelligence and military spheres. During the Second World War, we recruited Captains of Industry, academics, and even convicted criminals to support the war effort in areas like the Office of Strategic Services (OSS, precursor to the C.I.A.), Army Logistics, and the Manhattan Project.

I can certainly understand the trepidation and uneasiness by Congress about hiring essentially “hit teams” to neutralize Al-Qaeda and other Jihadist elements. After all, it is a bold method, involving risk, uncertainty, and exposure, attributes Congress tends to avoid. That is precisely why we hire the “varsity” to conduct such actions and programs, artful in both “shooter” and “spook” skills (“shooks”) that can operate clandestinely, utilizing superior language skills and cultural and regional acumen, and themselves have the necessary skills and experience with no trepidation on personally “booking” a flight for these characters. Congress, however, would rather sit back and get glossy Power Point Briefs, and infrared streaming video as they sip their Lattes while the Global Hawks and Predators “Nintendo” the war by some pimply faced airmen from Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, who then goes to the club for a cold beer. Unfortunately, Predators, and other technical, Un-manned platforms, can provide the “who”, “what”, “where”, but are incapable of the “should” and “why” components of intelligence gathering and surveillance.

There is no doubt that this is hard, complex, and morally challenging work that “contractors” and other elements of such programs might have and could be delving in now. That is why intelligence and special/sensitive operational leadership, experience, oversight, and judgment are essential in the process…none of which Mr. Panetta possesses in the intelligence field. He knows the “Congress” field. No doubt that is why he marched up to the Hill as soon as his untested comfort level was met.
