About a month ago, I tried to raise some sticky, gooey questions that underscored the very amorphous and rather illogical status of diversity politics and racial identity that floods the perception and “victim rights” agenda of today’s Progressive Left.

Since that article, we see credible reporting from The Daily Mail that alleges Zimmerman’s Great Grandfather was black.

If my math is correct, that would make Zimmerman essentially 1/8th black. (Parents= Half, Grandparents=fourth, Great Grandparents=eighth)…
We now have seen Elizabeth Warren, former Harvard Law Professor, currently running for Senate in Massachusetts, has claimed over several years that she is essentially a “minority”, worthy of “diversity” status by having marked “Native-American” for her “ethnicity” identity. Her claim is she can identify with being Cherokee because her Great-Great-Great Grandmother was full Cherokee. (Great Grandparents=1/8th, therefore Great-Great-Great Grand Parents =1/32nd.)
This has caused quite a stir, and many on the left have rallied to her claim, or have tried to argue that she never “benefitted” from that claim due to her “superior” performance, etc…This seems to me on the surface as self-cancelling arguments…but I am not a geneticist.
If we apply Warren’s same parameters in an attempt to establish her “diversity” bona fides being 1/32nd Cherokee to the Zimmerman case, we find this very muddled and rhetorically weak “racial identity” politics and hyperbole gets bowled over by simple math. By the left's own cluttered logic, Zimmerman, being 1/8th black, is four times likely NOT to have committed a hate crime simply because Warren’s 1/32nd Cherokee claim provides her the “lore” and racial bona fides to claim her “diversity” status for apparent Affirmative Action recognition and benefits.
No matter how the left slices it, either Zimmerman is not guilty of a Hate Crime or Warren never rated being “Cherokee” for “diversity” purposes. The great thing about math…it doesn’t lie, and both cannot be true!
If the left chooses to embrace Warren’s “diversity claims” then they can no longer tout Zimmerman’s “hate” as a motive in his alleged crime.
